Ionos Almere Emergency Wind Up and Solar Radio with LED Torch
The point of a radio like this is the night the power goes and your phone is on eleven per cent. It runs on three power sources — a wind-up handle, a solar panel on the top, and USB charging — so it keeps working when there is no electricity in the house and no way to charge anything.
It picks up AM and FM, which is what you want for local news and the weather warnings, and there is a telescopic aerial for getting a clean signal. Charged up, it gives up to four and a half hours of playback.
There is a 3 LED torch built in, and it also works as a power bank for charging USB devices, which is the feature people are usually most glad of.
It measures 13cm wide, 6.5cm high and 4.5cm deep, with a soft touch body. A carry strap and a USB charging cable come with it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do the three power sources work together?
Wind the handle for power there and then, leave it in a window on its solar panel to top itself up over a day, or charge it from a USB cable when the power is on. Any of the three will run it.
Can it charge my phone?
It works as a power bank for USB devices, so yes, it will put charge into a phone. It is a small radio rather than a large battery pack, so treat it as enough to get a call made rather than a full charge.
How long does it play for?
Up to four and a half hours of playback once it is charged.
What is the weather band for?
That band carries the North American weather radio service, so there is nothing broadcasting on it here. Buy it for the AM and FM, which is what will pick up local news and warnings in Ireland.
What comes in the box?
The radio, a carry strap and a USB charging cable.
