An area light is not a torch. The lens here throws a 360 degree beam pattern rather than a cone, so one unit on the floor lights a whole room evenly instead of putting a bright patch on one wall and leaving you working in your own shadow.
It runs to 5,000 lumens at full output, with three brightness settings — roughly 1,500, 3,200 and 5,000 lumens — so you are not burning through a battery at full tilt to do close work.
Tool Connect is Bluetooth built into the light. Pair it to the free DeWalt app and you can switch it on and off, change the brightness, set a low-battery alert and schedule it by day and time, all without crossing the room.
This is a bare unit. No battery and no charger are included. It takes DeWalt 18V XR packs, and the manual also lists the FLEXVOLT DCB546, DCB547 and DCB548 batteries as compatible.

Does it come with a battery or a charger?
No. This is the bare unit, so you need a DeWalt 18V XR battery and a charger separately. If you already run DeWalt cordless tools, your existing packs will do.
Which batteries fit it?
DeWalt 18V XR packs. The manual also lists the FLEXVOLT DCB546, DCB547 and DCB548 as compatible, so a FLEXVOLT pack from a 54V tool will run it.
What does Tool Connect actually do?
Bluetooth is built into the light. Through the free DeWalt app you can switch it on and off, change the brightness, set an alert for when the battery runs low, and schedule it by day, time and brightness. The light pairs with one Tool Connect account at a time.
Can it be mounted on a tripod?
Yes. The base has both a 1/4 inch and a 5/8 inch thread, so it fits standard site tripods, and there is a hook on the base for hanging it instead.
Can it be left out in the rain?
It is rated IP54, which means dust protected and splashproof. It must not be submerged.
