First thing to be clear about: this is a manual espresso machine that uses ground coffee. No pods, no beans, no built-in grinder. You put ground coffee in the basket, tamp it, and pull a shot — which is the whole appeal if you want to make coffee rather than press a button, and the wrong machine entirely if you wanted capsules.
The 15 bar pump and Thermoblock heating are the same formula De'Longhi have been refining for decades, and they are what produce a proper crema. A front dial controls extraction, and two pressurised double-wall filter baskets come with it — these are the forgiving kind, which makes a decent shot much easier if you are not grinding fresh.
The professional steam wand is what lifts it beyond espresso. Cappuccino, latte, flat white — all of them need milk textured properly, and a wand you control by hand gives you that in a way an automatic frother does not. There is a cup warmer on top that holds two cups, because a cold cup kills a good espresso faster than anything.
Shot volumes are programmable: espresso anywhere from 15ml to 90ml, double from 30ml to 180ml, so once you have it set to your taste it repeats. The 1.7 litre tank lifts out for filling, the drip tray is removable and adjustable for different cup heights, and there is a descaling programme with an indicator light that tells you when it is due. In stainless steel, it takes up just 226mm of worktop.

Does it take pods or capsules?
No. This is a manual machine that uses ground coffee in a filter basket. If you want capsules, the De'Longhi Dolce Gusto Mini Me is the one to look at instead.
Does it have a grinder built in?
No, there is no grinder. You use pre-ground coffee, or grind your own separately. The two baskets supplied are pressurised, which is more forgiving of shop-bought ground coffee than a standard basket.
Can I make cappuccinos and lattes?
Yes. It has a professional steam wand, so you texture the milk yourself rather than relying on an automatic frother. That takes a little practice and gives you far more control over the result.
How much coffee does it make at once?
Single or double shots, and the volumes are programmable — espresso from 15ml to 90ml, double espresso from 30ml to 180ml.
How big is it on the worktop?
