Stanley Try & Mitre Square 200mm (8in)
A single carpenters square that does two jobs. The stock meets the blade at 90 degrees for setting out and checking square, and the far face of the stock is cut at 45 degrees for marking a mitre. Marking a door lining, squaring a sawn end, setting out a skirting mitre – one tool covers all three.
The blade is polished steel, 200mm (8in), marked in metric on both sides so it reads the same whichever way you turn it over. The stock is ABS plastic, which keeps the weight down and will not rust in a damp van. There is a hole through the stock so it hangs on a nail or a board hook.
This is a general carpentry and DIY square rather than a precision engineers square. For marking timber, sheet goods and trim it is straightforward and quick to use.

What angles does this square mark?
Two. The inside and outside faces of the stock give you 90 degrees for a try square line, and the angled end of the stock gives you 45 degrees for a mitre.
Is the blade marked in metric or imperial?
Metric only, and the graduations are on both sides of the blade so it reads correctly whichever face is uppermost.
What is the stock made from?
ABS plastic. It is lighter than a traditional rosewood or steel stock and it will not rust, which suits a tool that lives in a site bag.
Is this one square or a set?
One square. It is a single combined try and mitre square, not a multi-piece set.
Can I use it to check a frame is square during assembly?
Yes. Hold the stock against one member and the blade against the other; any gap along the blade shows the joint is out.
