Normally straightening means drying first and then going over the hair again with irons — two rounds of heat. This does both in one pass. In wet mode, high-velocity airflow runs through the plates so the hair is dried and straightened together. Switch to dry mode and the airflow stops, leaving a conventional straightener for touching up.
Shark's claim is styling without the heat damage, and it is worth being precise about it: that claim applies to wet and wet-to-dry mode, where the moisture leaving the hair keeps the temperature down, rather than to every use.
The HeatSense ceramic plates carry sensors that read plate temperature 1000 times a second and adjust it, so the heat stays where it should be instead of spiking.
Three interchangeable combs clip on. The Gentle Comb for fine or fragile hair, the Precision Comb for working close to the root and on shorter sections, and the Wide-Tooth Comb for thick or curly hair that needs separating as it goes through.
