One appliance for both ends of the year. In winter it is a 2000W heater; in summer it is a nine-speed tower fan. That is one thing to store rather than two, and one plug rather than two.
Bladeless, so there is no spinning blade behind a grille — safer with children about, and a great deal easier to clean than a bladed tower.
The four modes are where it gets clever. Strong Air is flat out. Natural cycles between speeds 3, 5 and 7 so the air moves the way a breeze does rather than droning at one pitch. Sleep steps the speed down one level every fifteen minutes until it settles at the lowest. ECO works in heating mode and varies the speed with the room temperature.
The thermostat sets anywhere between 5°C and 35°C, preset at 25°C, so it holds a temperature rather than running flat out. It oscillates through 80 degrees, and the timer runs from one to eight hours — either to switch it off, or to have the heat come on.
A remote comes with it and stores magnetically on the unit, which is the detail that stops it disappearing down the side of the sofa. On safety: there is a built-in overheating device, a 12-hour continuous-use shut-off, and tilt detection that stops the heater if it is tipped past 30 degrees.
It runs at 52.6dB and stands 590mm tall on a 210mm square footprint.
