Roughneck Gorilla Bar, 610mm (24in)
A wrecking bar for lifting floorboards, drawing nails, splitting pallets, easing a frame out of an opening and all the other jobs that come down to getting under something and leaning on it.
The low-profile claw is the useful part: it is thin enough to slide further under the workpiece before it starts to lift, so you get more of the board or the batten over the fulcrum and more prying power out of the same pull. The claw is also wider than usual, which spreads the load — it gives better control and stops the bar sinking into whatever you are levering against.
It is drop-forged alloy steel, hardened and tempered, with polished tips that slide into a tight joint, and an oval shaft rather than round or flat, which is stronger to bend and easier to hold on to when your hands are wet. 610mm (24in) — the general-purpose length.

What makes the Gorilla Bar different from an ordinary wrecking bar?
The claw. It is lower in profile so it slides further under the board before it starts lifting, and wider across so it does not dig into the surface you are levering off.
Is 610mm the right length?
It is the middle of the range and the one most people buy. Roughneck also make it at 356mm (14in) for close work and 914mm (36in) where you want more leverage.
Can I hit it with a hammer?
It is drop forged, hardened and tempered, so it will take being driven under a board. As with any hardened steel tool, wear eye protection — struck faces can chip.
Why an oval shaft?
Oval resists bending better than round at the same weight, and gives your hand something to register against so the bar does not roll when you lean on it.
