Most portable radios make do with one speaker, which is fine for talk and thin for music. The Blutune 7 uses two 3 inch full-range drivers set apart in a 294mm cabinet, so there is real separation between left and right. Bass and treble controls let you tune it for a hard kitchen or a softer sitting room instead of living with one fixed voicing.
It covers DAB, DAB+ and FM on a telescopic aerial, and adds Bluetooth, so the house radio becomes the phone speaker in seconds. There is a 3.5mm aux input for anything wired and a headphone socket for late listening.
There are 40 presets — twenty DAB and twenty FM — and the part that matters day to day is the five one-touch buttons on the top panel, so the morning station arrives without a menu or a dial. The 2.4 inch full-colour display shows station and clock big enough to read from the far side of a room.
Dual alarms with snooze cover two different waking times and an adjustable sleep timer turns it off once you have settled. At 1.54kg with an aluminium carry handle, it is built to move from the worktop to a windowsill rather than to live in a pocket.
