Matilda Wormwood read her way through the library by the age of four, so it is only fair that her game is about words. This is three spelling games in one box — The Bookworm Game, Matilda's Word Grid Game and Matilda's Wordstack Game — each one building words from the same deck of letter cards, but each playing quite differently.
There are 100 letter cards to build with, 40 bookworm cards for scoring, and a one-minute sand timer that turns the Word Grid game into a proper scramble. Because the three games share the same components, children tend to work up through them: start with the gentlest, graduate to the one against the clock.
It is designed to back up spelling and word-building at Key Stage 1 and 2 level, which is the useful part for parents — it lines up with what is happening at school without announcing itself as homework. Recommended for ages 6 and over, for 2 to 4 players.
